Link Love: Wearables SDK, Android/Windows tablet, Android versions

Wearable developer tools coming in two weeks

Android makes its way into wearable tech with the announcement of a wearables SDK in the works. The software development kit will enable developers to create Android software for wearable hardware, and is slated for release in just two weeks.

Asus dual boot

Google cited as bothered by Android-Windows hybrid

Google is reported miffed by the Asus dual OS Android/Windows laptop-tablet. Not even kind of surprising- Microsoft hasn’t openly opposed the device. Hell, who would blame them?

Android 4.4 KitKat now at 2.5%, Jelly Bean tops the chart at 62%, 2.3 Gingerbread drops to 19%

Every month, Google updates its Platform Versions page to show its Android operating system’s adoption rate. Currently Android 4.4 KitKat is at 2.5%, Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2, 4.3) takes the top spot at 62%, the slightly older version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Link Love: Android myths, Yandex Kit

Debunking four myths about Android, Google, and open-source –

You can take Android Open Source Project (AOSP) code today and make your own version of Android today. If you want to, you can even take a page from CyanogenMod’s book and make an Android that works with multiple devices instead of being tied to one vendor’s smartphones and tablets.

Contrary to Edelman’s claims, you can also build commercially viable operating systems off Android without Google Mobile Service (GMS) apps. Or, at least, you can try to. That’s exactly what Mozilla is doing with Firefox OS. And, Canonical’s Ubuntu Touch started out using CyanogenMod Android for its foundation. Indeed, it still uses Android during its initial boot up.

Yandex offers apps-and-services bundle to help others build non-Google Android devices - Gigaom

Enter Russian web giant Yandex, which has spent the last couple of years developing alternative services for those manufacturers who are trying to build an own-brand system on top of AOSP. On Wednesday, the company unveiled what it calls Yandex.Kit, a firmware package that includes email, mapping, a browser, a 3D launcher, and Yandex.Store, which boasts around 100,000 apps.

Through Glass

Jen GlassLast week, MiKandi’s Jennifer McEwen shared her experience with Google Glass on Android Central’s Through Glass series.

Google Glass is a device of contradictions. It’s intended for communication, but it’s hard to talk to someone on it. It captures and shares moments immediately, but getting the shot just right is cumbersome. It connects you with the world, but could alienate you from the people in front of you. But as with all technology, it is what you make it.

Link Love: Moving Porn Forward

Over the past few decades, the adult industry has made significant transitions and contributions in and to the world we live in. You may laugh, but many technologies we use today were driven by the industry- from VHS and DVDs, to online payment systems (maybe this time next year, we can add Bitcoin to the list). Some changes were positive- moving from brick and mortar adult video stores to online adult networks and affiliate programs. Other changes were unwelcome- such as torrents and tube sites. Yet, while the world the adult industry operates in has undergone tremendous change, for the most part the actual product remains unsettling stagnant.

If you’ve watched your fair share of adult entertainment, you probably know the adult film MO like the palm of your hand- see what I did there? You could recite a random film scene by scene and describe a majority of the adult films out there because they haven’t changed all that much.

Last week, one of our favorite porn blogs, (obviously NSFW) shared this fantastic post detailing what they think porn can do to move forward. Some highlights:

On racism and the interracial niche

Apart from sending a horrible message that black performers are somehow “second-class” to their white counterparts, this practice broadcasts the notion to the younger generation that there is something inherently taboo about fucking somebody of a different ethnicity.

On porn for women

Females aren’t sexless, fragile creatures – no, they’ve got horny needs and desires too, so naturally catering to the other fifty percent of the population would not only be progressive but lucrative as well.

On transparency

Since the dawn of tube sites, porn will do just about anything to get a paid subscriber. There are a litany of ways to seduce someone into a membership, but imagine if porn came clean with its ways, scrubbed its image, and created female-friendly porn among other progressive changes. Slowly, but surely, the mainstream would be more accommodating in letting its red-headed stepchild sit at the table instead of hiding it under the stairs.

Transparency is something we’re particularly keen on. When we come across porn companies that try to trick customers, we can’t help but shake our heads in frustration. You’re ruining it for the rest of us! Customers shouldn’t have to worry about getting scammed by the people they’re trying to give their money to. We think that’s ridiculous. So, since day one, MiKandi has strived for transparency. We’re committed to giving you very best mobile porn experience. We do that not only by building innovative mobile products like our adult app store and streaming mobile theater, but by treating our customers with respect. We’re happy to see more transparent, ethical, and accessible next-generation adult companies emerge. Together, we’ll redefine what it means to be an adult company.
