Divabot. The other type of Android… sorta.

You gotta love the creativity behind the brilliant minds of the Japanese.   At Japan’s Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, they’ve developed the world’s first robot pop star.  Yep, that’s right.  She can sing and she can bust a move.  That’s taking the term, “doing the robot” to a whole ‘notha level!

Divabot (the name they’ve dubbed her) uses special software to precisely mimic a human singer’s head movements and facial features and synthesizes notes with Yamaha’s Vocaloid software.  Talk about Japanese innovation.  Eat your heart out SURALP Humanoid Robot!  The students at Sabanci University Robot Research Laboratory Platform in Turkey have created their own robot too… just 8 years and 1 million dollars later.  You think they could’ve made it a bit sexier, no?

Want to experience more Japanese innovation?  There’s all sorts of goodies to experience!  Next time you’re with your buddies, create a forced awkward situation for everyone and watch some creatively uncomfortable Hentai. It will bring you and your pals closer as a unit.  Trust.

Google Android outsells Apple iPhone

Analysts have been predicting this for quite some time, and if you’ve seen our presentation “Taking Advantage of the Emerging Multi Billion Dollar Mobile App Market“, you would have seen the figures there as well.  The forecast: Google Android will outrank Apple iPhone by 2013.

Reports have been trickling in that Android has already begun to fulfill the prophecy.

Today from Mobile Beat:

Smartphones based on Google’s Android mobile operating system have outsold Apple’s iPhone in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2010, according to a report by research firm The NPD Group. The data places Android, with 28 percent of the smartphone market, in second place behind RIM’s Blackberry smartphone market share of 36 percent. Apple now sits in third place with 21 percent.

Between that and dem fightin’ werdz from Apple CEO Steve Jobs, it seems like there’s a war a-brewin’.  What side will you be on?

PC Mag: “Mobile Apps Get Sexy”

PC Mag – Mobile Apps Get Sexy

LAS VEGAS—The day after Christmas, when millions of Americans unwrapped their new smartphones, the mobile Web site for porn producers, Pink Visual, saw a 40-percent spike in traffic. It’s obvious that Americans are searching for porn on their phones. At the AVN trade show today, adult content producers said that the next frontier is apps—whether or not companies like Apple are ready for them.

Wireless carriers in the U.S. are very interested in selling adult content, but they need to figure out how to do it without making their stockholders panic, said Farley Cahen, vice president for new media at adult publishing house Digital Playground.

“The carriers are willing and anxious to take adult content on-deck and off-deck on their networks,” he said.

So carriers (secretly) want porn and consumers (apparently) want porn. Most porn houses currently have successful mobile Web sites. Taking the next step to apps enables rich experiences that you just can’t get through a mobile Web site.

For instance, image- and video-based apps could include chapter stops or accelerometer-based shake-to-navigate abilities, said Jesse Adams, president of alternative Android app store MiKandi. App stores could sell adults-only games like the popular Japanese “hentai” lines, or enable social and location-based experiences like strip-club finders.

“The convenience of an app is so much better than that of a mobile site,” Adams said.
